Natural oils can alleviate cold symptoms in babies, clear congestion, and promote relaxation. Here’s a simple and safe recipe you can make at home:
Ingredients:
1. Carrier Oil (Base):
- 2 tablespoons sweet almond oil (you can also use coconut oil or high-quality olive oil).
2. Gentle Essential Oils:
- 1 drop eucalyptus radiata essential oil (a gentle type safe for babies over 3 months old).
- 1 drop lavender essential oil.
Preparation:
1. In a small bowl or glass bottle, mix the base oil with the essential oils thoroughly.
2. Seal the bottle tightly and store it in a cool, shaded place.
How to Use:
1. Chest Massage:
Apply a small amount of the oil to your hands, warm it slightly by rubbing your hands together, and gently massage your baby's chest and upper back.
2. Foot Massage:
Massage your baby's feet with the oil, then put on socks to retain body heat.
3. Gentle Vapor (for 6 months and older only):
Place a bowl of warm water near the baby’s crib (but out of reach), and add one drop of the mixture to the water to create gentle vapors.
Safety Notes:
- For ages 3 months and up: Some essential oils, like eucalyptus radiata, are suitable for this age, but always keep the dosage low.
- Do not use eucalyptus globulus: This type is not suitable for babies and may irritate their respiratory system.
- Perform an allergy test: Apply a small amount of the oil on a small area of skin (like the back of the hand) to check for any reactions.
- Avoid contact with face and sensitive areas.
Result:
This natural oil can help reduce congestion and enhance your baby's comfort during a cold.
