Must One Immerse Glass Utensils?
Question
Dear Rabbi, Greetings and blessings. I would like to know if there is a need to immerse glass utensils (plates, cups, spice containers, etc.). This is not related to Passover; it is a general question. I would appreciate your response! Inbal
Answer
Greetings,
Glass utensils that are used for eating and drinking and are manufactured by a factory owned by non-Jews are required to be immersed (see Shulchan Aruch Yoreh De'ah, Siman 120, Se'if 1).
However, containers that are not brought to the table during the meal but are only used to store food items should be immersed without a blessing (see Sefer Hilchot Olam, Part 7, pages 255-256, and Sefer Tvilat Kelim, Chapter 11, Se'if 16).
Best regards,
Hillel Meirs
