Is it Permissible to Eat Meat Leftover from Shabbat During the Nine Days?
Question
According to Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, zt"l, is it permitted to eat meat that was left over from the Shabbat meals during the Nine Days after Rosh Chodesh Av, or should it be discarded? Thank you.
Answer
Greetings,
Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, zt"l, holds that those who are lenient regarding the consumption of meat leftover from Shabbat meals during the Nine Days have grounds on which to rely. According to the strict law, this meat is permitted for consumption, even for adults, since it is essentially allowed. This is especially true if one consumes the leftover meat at the fourth meal and is accustomed to eating meat during that meal. However, one should not purposefully cook extra for Shabbat with the intention of saving it for weekday use.
