Is it permissible to wash dishes on Tisha B'Av that falls on Motzei Shabbat?

AA

Question

Are we supposed to leave all the dishes from Shabbat dirty until after the fast so as not to lose focus on the mourning? Additionally, washing the dishes does wet the hands. Thank you

Answer

Greetings,

It is forbidden to wash dishes on Tisha B'Av until after midday, and the reason for this is to avoid distracting oneself from the mourning. This applies even when Tisha B'Av falls on Motzei Shabbat. However, dishes that are needed immediately, such as for feeding children, may be washed, and there is no obligation to wear rubber gloves, though it is preferable to do so.

Blessings,

Hillel Meirs
