a question
Hello Rabbi, I wanted to know when the days of Selichot start in 2016? Thanks in advance, Shmuel.
Answer
Hello, According to the Sephardic custom, Selichot begin on the second day of Elul (refer to Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim, Section 581, Paragraph 1, and Chazon Ovadia Yamim Noraim, page 2). As for the Ashkenazic custom, Selichot are recited starting on the Sunday before Rosh Hashanah. If Rosh Hashanah falls on a Monday or Tuesday, then Selichot begin on the Sunday of the week prior (see Rema there). Best wishes, Hillel Meires.
