Shaving for Sephardim During the Nine Days

AA

Question

Is it permissible for Sephardim to shave from Rosh Chodesh Av? That is, during the week in which Tisha B'Av does not fall? Thank you

Answer

Greetings,

According to the Sephardic custom, it is permissible to shave even after Rosh Chodesh Av – until the week in which Tisha B'Av occurs. Immediately after Tisha B'Av, one is permitted to resume shaving.

Sources: Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim (Siman 551, Seifim 3-4), Chazon Ovadia Arba Taaniyot (page 561).

Best regards,

Hillel Meirs
