Do We Recite the Morning Blessings on Shabbat and Yom Tov?
Question
Hello, do we recite the morning blessings and the blessings of the Torah also on Shabbat and on Yom Tov? Is there a difference in obligation between men and women?
Thank you very much.
Answer
Greetings,
1. We recite all the morning blessings on both Shabbat and Yom Tov. Even on Tisha B'Av and Yom Kippur, where there is a prohibition against wearing leather shoes, one may still recite "Sheasa Li Kol Tzarki" (Mishnah Berurah, Orach Chaim 56:38). This was also the practice of Rabbi Ovadiah Yosef, zt"l, as stated in his responsa Yabia Omer, Volume 10, Orach Chaim, Section 8.
2. There is one distinction between men and women in the morning blessings: men recite "Shelo Asani Isha," while women recite "Sha'asani Kirtzono" in its place. Ashkenazi women recite this blessing with the name and kingship (see Piskey Teshuvot, Section 46, Note 12), whereas Sephardi women recite this blessing without name and kingship (see responsa Yechave Da'at, Volume 4, Section 4).
Furthermore, men who are accustomed to stay awake on Shavuot (as well as anyone who was awake all night) should refer to this link for additional guidance: https://www.hidabroot.org/question/185968
