The white sugar now found in almost every food or drink contributes to various health issues, particularly diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, and obesity.

When fat cells are abundant, they create inflammation, leading to fatigue, headaches, and in advanced stages - arthritis.

There are two types of arthritis. Osteoarthritis results from overuse of the joint and age-related wear. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease where the body attacks itself. The immune system attacks the joints, damaging the fluid that lubricates the joint, and later affecting the cartilage and bone.

Spiritually, the skeletal system and joints represent our ability to be flexible, both physically and mentally and behaviorally.

Certain foods can ease the pain:

· Omega-3 and Vitamin D can be found in fish or fish oil supplements.

· Garlic contains anti-inflammatory compounds and boosts the immune system.

· Ginger - fresh or ground dry ginger can both help reduce inflammation. Those with high blood pressure should avoid it.

· Broccoli aids liver cleansing and is especially beneficial for rheumatoid arthritis.

· Walnuts are a superfood - rich in omega-3, they should be incorporated into diets to reduce inflammation.

· Berries are antioxidants, containing vitamins and minerals. They have quercetin and rutin, both antioxidants that prevent inflammation and protect blood vessels. Frozen berries like strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries can also be used in smoothies.

· Green leafy vegetables greatly reduce inflammation and have many other benefits. Add them to salads, dishes, and smoothies.

· Olive oil is known as an antioxidant and should be included in cooking.

To alleviate joint pain, prepare a rubbing oil: a tablespoon of rosemary leaves, a tablespoon of crushed bay leaves, and a cup of olive oil. Place in a small pot and cook in a bain-marie (a large pot with boiling water with the small pot on top containing the leaves and oil). Cook for 40 minutes. Cool, strain, and store in a glass jar. Apply to joints while gently massaging.
