93-Year-Old Man Lives in the Ruins of His Submerged Hometown

Unbelievable but true: 93 years ago, a man named Pablo was born in a small, picturesque village in Argentina. Life was peaceful until November 1985, when his charming town, Villa Epecuén, was utterly destroyed by a devastating flood that struck the southern part of the country.

Many people, including those born in the village, decided not to take any risks and left the area, but Pablo stayed the whole time. "I live in an abandoned house, there are many here. I have a garden and everything I need, but I'm the only one living here." He said that even five years after the flood, the water was high and covered everything, and no residents returned to the village. "I was completely alone here all day, every day. I spent most of my time searching for a 20-year-old bottle of whiskey, and eventually, I found one and drank it by myself."

More than 2,000 residents lived in the picturesque town until that flood, and from old photos presented by Pablo, it appeared to be a truly wonderful place that attracted thousands of tourists each year.

Pablo recounts that the flood was so strong that it broke the dam in the village and submerged it entirely under water, to a depth of three meters.

For 25 years, the town was a ghost town until a transformation occurred in 1993 when the waters receded to reveal massive deposits of debris, rust, and ruined cars and houses the flood had taken with it. In Pablo's old home, you'll find rusty chairs, dust, and piles of old newspapers, but he expresses no regret about it. "I'm old. At my age, all that's left is to enjoy what life has to offer. I saw this town born and watched it die. It doesn't affect me anymore," he concludes.
