Is it permissible to trim nails on Motzaei Shabbat?

Question

Is it permissible to cut nails at the end of Shabbat? I heard that one should avoid it due to disrespect for Shabbat; is that true? May you be blessed from Heaven.

Answer

Greetings,

According to the letter of the law, it is permissible to trim nails on Motzaei Shabbat; however, it is advisable to refrain from doing so, as it is a disrespect to Shabbat that one did not bother to do it on Friday evening and only remembered to do it after Shabbat had ended.

Sources: In the book "She'elat Rav," part two (page 6), Rav Chaim Kanievsky, shlit"a, was asked whether it is correct that one should not get a haircut on Motzaei Shabbat, and he replied that it is not respectful to Shabbat. Additionally, one should consider the words of Rav Shmuel Kluger, zt"l, in Hakhmat Shlomo on Orach Chaim (Siman 566), who wrote, "Especially it is disgraceful that on Shabbat he would not shave, and on Sunday after Shabbat he would shave." See there.

Best regards,

Hillel Meiras
