"When the King of Persia will return and destroy the entire world."
Question
How long ago was this statement made and in which book?
Answer
Shalom uvracha
This statement was made by our Rabbis, the Tannaim, around 1,500 years ago, and it is brought in the book Yalkut Shimoni (Isaiah Remez Tzadi Chet): "Rabbi Yitzhak said: The year when the King Messiah is to be revealed, all the kings of the nations of the world will provoke each other. The King of Persia will provoke the Arabian king and he will go to Aram to take counsel from them, then the King of Persia will return and destroy the whole world and all the nations of the world will be perplexed and frightened, and they will fall on their faces and they will have pains like a woman in labor. And Israel will be perplexed and frightened and will say: 'Where shall we come and go? Where shall we come and go?' And He will say to them: 'My children, do not fear, all that I have done I have done only for you. Why do you fear? Do not fear, the time of your redemption has arrived.'"
