Embracing Curiosity: Discovering Truth Beyond Assumptions

Some choose to hold onto limited perspectives, avoiding deeper truths about the universe. This might seem simple, but it's a significant oversight...

Anyone observing the world will find that nature is meticulously designed, suggesting the work of a singular artist: atoms, molecules, gravity, the water cycle, ozone, oxygen, DNA, living cells, anatomy. These are all remarkably complex systems that surpass any human creation. For instance, the human brain contains 86 billion neurons (nerve cells) operating in harmony, a super-machine whose complexity dwarfs even the most advanced computers. Nature presents us with countless proofs of an intelligent Creator, as wisdom cannot exist without a wise source.

Yet, some people resist drawing this logical conclusion, claiming humility with statements like: "How can I, with my small human mind, conclude anything about Hashem who created the universe?" From this line of thinking, they forgo seeking truth, opting instead for a state of ignorance about their existential purpose.

This mindset stems from a logical fallacy that can be illustrated with other examples. Consider what we would think of someone who denied the ocean's existence simply because they could not grasp its size, depth, and the myriad creatures living within it?

Or imagine another person studying the universe, discovering the hundreds of billions of galaxies and stars, with vast and unimaginable reaches, but then concluding there's no universe beyond our perception?

Clearly, this is not rational thinking. We are certain of the ocean and the universe's existence, even without comprehension of their entirety; we can acquire genuine knowledge about them, albeit incomplete. Likewise, through the wisdom of nature, we can confidently understand the existence of Hashem, even without grasping the full scope of divine reality and infinite wisdom.

In fact, precisely because of the enormity and power of such existence, even an ordinary person can gain certain knowledge of it, similar to an ant perceiving a large mountain. Humility before the Creator's power does not mean blindness to its existence!

Our eyes are naturally limited in their range of vision. Similarly, the eyes of our intellect, though also limited and not capable of knowing everything, can certainly provide us with true and accurate knowledge about existence within their capabilities.

Our mental perception allows us to learn something of the Creator's wisdom, leading us to a sure knowledge of an infinitely superior Creator who left His mark on all existing structures: in physics and chemistry, in anatomy and biology.

On deeper reflection, it can be further explained that Hashem endowed us with these wonderful intellectual and spiritual tools to provide us with a means to discover true knowledge about Him and His will for us. Our tools are genuine because He who entrusted them to us is genuine.
