Should one turn off an electronic answering machine from the telephone before Shabbat?
One who has an electronic answering machine or fax may leave it operating even on Shabbat, especially if one's business is in an area where most people are non-Jews. Even in an area where everyone is Jewish, there is no concern because even if a Shabbat violator called, they have already committed a prohibition by lifting the receiver and dialing, and what they added by speaking with the answering machine is inconsequential [Chazon Ovadia 1, p. 152].
Should security cameras be turned off before Shabbat?
In cases of security necessity, it is permissible to set up security cameras [Responsa of the Rishon LeZion 1, 30].
Is it permissible to set a trap on Shabbat?
It is permissible to set a trap on Shabbat, and certainly before Shabbat, to catch mice. It is also permissible to spread poison, and there is no concern of trapping or muktzeh [Chazon Ovadia 5, p.]
