Better Than Antibiotics: You Must Keep This Israeli Herb at Home. Here's Why

You may occasionally add it to your salads, but in its natural form without any additives, the Israeli plant known as hyssop (or more popularly as za'atar) is much more than you think.

The greatest physician of all time, Rambam, praised it in several contexts and wrote extensively about its virtues. In ancient medicine, this plant was used as a remedy for various issues, from treating influenza and its symptoms to cleaning the urinary system and treating bacteria and fungi.

Now, researchers from the Agricultural Research Organization at the Volcani Institute have found that Israeli za'atar derived from the hyssop plant is twice as beneficial and effective as antibiotics. This is thanks to components like thymol, carvacrol, rosmarinic acid, and ursolic acid, which give it its strong flavor.

Dr. Nativ Dudai, one of the leading researchers at the Volcani Institute, states that the za'atar was collected from areas spanning from Mount Hermon to the southern Negev, and the samples taken proved that its properties are richer than substances currently considered natural antibiotics, such as garlic and oregano.

"Through these samples, we will cultivate the richest strains in these components, which will serve as future antibiotic alternatives," says Dr. Dudai.

The Israeli researchers quickly patented this amazing discovery - two enriched za'atar strains containing a high level of active ingredients. Dr. Dudai concludes by saying that these strains will also be used in the beauty industry in the future as anti-aging capsules.
