High blood pressure is known as "the silent killer" because you typically don't feel it when it is high, yet it causes severe harm to the body and is indeed one of the leading causes of death in the Western world. It is crucial for everyone to monitor their blood pressure and take action to lower it if it is high. How can this be done?

 

Ways to Lower Blood Pressure

1. Reduce salt intake. Excessive salt and sodium contribute to increased blood pressure. To lower blood pressure, consider moving to a low-salt diet. Reduce the amount of salt added to home-cooked meals, check the nutritional values of purchased foods, and prefer products containing less sodium. Also, avoid processed foods as much as possible, as they contain large amounts of sodium.

2. Quit smoking and drinking. Smoking and alcohol consumption contribute to higher blood pressure, among other bodily harm. Simply quit.

3. Lose weight. Overweight individuals tend to suffer from high blood pressure. Therefore, those who are overweight and have high blood pressure are recommended to take various steps to lose weight. Weight loss also improves the body's response to medication for high blood pressure if needed.

4. Ensure sufficient sleep. Fatigue is linked in studies to high blood pressure. Therefore, it is important to ensure adequate and quality sleep.

5. Try to relax. High blood pressure is associated with stress, tension, and worries. It's important to try to maintain calmness in life in general. You can use tools like yoga, laughter workshops, good music, breathing exercises, and more.

6. Consume foods that lower blood pressure. There are various foods known to effectively lower blood pressure. Here are some examples: cinnamon, blueberries, beet juice, pomegranate juice, hibiscus tea, cranberry juice, orange juice, yogurt, cottage cheese, pumpkin seeds, tomato paste, cocoa, red pepper, cooked legumes, salmon, spinach, and even red wine – in small amounts, of course.
