#VALUE!
Imagine this scenario: You are lying in bed trying to fall asleep, when suddenly your stomach 'growls' signaling hunger. It's already past 9 PM, and you try to ignore the feeling and go back to sleep - but eventually, you succumb and shuffle towards the fridge. What happens to your body if you choose food over a drink?
A new Spanish study conducted by the Institute for Global Health at the University of Barcelona now claims there is a link between eating after 9 PM and increased risk of cancer. The researchers attribute this to disruption of the biological clock and metabolic processes occurring at that time.
The lead researcher, Dr. Manolis Kogevinas, wrote in a study published in an international cancer journal that these findings underscore the importance of "evaluating daily rhythms," as he put it. He further added that the research definitively proved a very high rate of cancer patients had poor eating habits such as this.
According to the researchers, these findings shed light on existing international cancer prevention guidelines, which currently do not address meal timings and their impact on the body at all. "We hope that following our research, this guideline will be added in all health organizations, the sooner the better," they say.
