Whether you have a winery nearby or you need to travel far, this tip for cleaning your lungs from nicotine is buzzing online, and for good reason. You probably haven't heard of cream of tartar, even though it's found at the bottom of every wine barrel. It's a specific type of acid that accumulates on the walls and base of the barrel during the fermentation process.

You can find cream of tartar powder in stores, resembling baking powder, and it's often used by food production companies to whip proteins or stabilize ice cream and candies.

An American doctor named Dr. Janet Starr-Hull (English: janethull) shares this tip on her website, bringing several letters from her patients that this tip helped. "Before recommending anything to anyone, I want to try this tip myself," she wrote as an introduction on her site.

It's important to be consistent and not allow yourself to fall into 'just one cigarette'

After recent test results proved that cream of tartar indeed helped clean her lungs, Dr. Janet wrote the following:

"The prominent advantage of cream of tartar is that it replaces the potassium that nicotine steals from the system, balancing the acid levels in the lungs - when toxins from cigarettes accumulate there. This treatment has been proven effective in cleaning nicotine from the lungs, but it's no substitute for quitting smoking. Every cigarette you smoke deprives your body of 25 mg of vitamin C, and when you dilute cream of tartar with vitamin C, I recommend orange juice - this action is neutralized.

"If you've decided to quit smoking, it's important to be consistent and not allow yourself to fall into 'just one cigarette'. If you reduce the number of cigarettes reaching your hands each day, you should be able to quit within a month, if not sooner. Most smokers have developed this action as a 'habit', and habits can and should be changed when they cause irreversible damage to our health."

According to her, the process of quitting will become easier and more feasible if someone accustomed to a quality cigarette replaces it with a less quality one that they find distasteful. Additionally, it's recommended not to buy a pack but rather a single pack each time, and not to purchase a new pack if the current one hasn't been finished. "And if you have a strong craving for a cigarette, wait five minutes and in the meantime do something interesting. Many of my patients have quit entirely from those 'five minutes' that stretched into hours, days, weeks - at the end of which they realized they don't need this toxin in their lives," she concludes and adds: "It happened to me, and it can happen to you too."
