Is there a preference to purchase wool tzitzit?

It is proper and correct for every God-fearing person to purchase wool tzitzit specifically and not cotton, since one does not fulfill the Torah commandment except with wool tzitzit [Shulchan Aruch 9, 1].

Is there a preference for the color of the tallit?

It is good for a person to buy a completely white tallit and tzitzit [without black stripes] according to the Shulchan Aruch, which states that one should make the tzitzit the same color as the tallit [Shulchan Aruch 9, 5].
