May one use a can of preserved food as an Eruv Tavshilin?
Ideally, the cooked food item for the Eruv should be cooked specifically for the purpose of making an Eruv, and it should preferably be cooked on the eve of the holiday rather than beforehand. Therefore, an Eruv of canned food is less than ideal [Biur Halacha 527, 6].
Can any cooked dish serve as an Eruv?
One should only use a cooked dish that is typically eaten with bread for the Eruv. For example, fruit salad cannot serve as an Eruv. Similarly, anything that has not undergone a cooking process, such as honey, cannot serve as an Eruv.
