Is one required to place a new fruit on the table for Rosh Hashanah?
For the Kiddush on the second night of Rosh Hashanah, the authorities differ on whether we recite the "Shehecheyanu" blessing during Kiddush. Therefore, it is advisable to place a new fruit on the table and have in mind that the Shehecheyanu blessing during Kiddush applies to this fruit as well. If one does not have a new fruit, one can wear a new garment and have it in mind when reciting the blessing.
Do we recite "Shehecheyanu" on yellow dates?
We recite Shehecheyanu on yellow dates, even though dates are available in the market throughout the year, since the yellow date is noticeably new [Yalkut Yosef, Section 600].
