Essential laws for Rosh Hashanah: blessing transitions and emotional prayer

AA

Should one say "Blessed is He who distinguishes between holy and holy" on the eve of the second day of Rosh Hashanah?

On the eve of the second holiday, one should say "Blessed is He who distinguishes between holy and holy" before doing any work [Chazon Ovadia, p. 182 in the note].

Is it permissible to cry during the Rosh Hashanah prayers?

One should not deliberately bring oneself to tears during prayer, as it is written, "Do not be sad, for the joy of Hashem is your strength." However, if tears come naturally, there is no prohibition. A person should know that when one cries, it is a sign that they are being judged at that moment [Yalkut Yosef Siman 582, Yechaveh Da'at 2, 69].
