The origin of the beet is in the Mediterranean basin. It is available in markets all year round, but its quality and wonderful properties are better in the winter season.

Beets have different varieties. In our country, two varieties are common: "flattened" beets and "round" beets. Beets are eaten cooked, sour, and raw in salads. The canning industries produce preserved beets. Many enjoy "beet kvass" - water boiled with beets. The temperament of the beet is cold. It is used as a remedy against weakness and exhaustion. Beet juice is extremely powerful in cases of gallbladder, liver, and glandular problems. Beets cooked for a long time with sugar cane serve as a remedy for coughs, especially dry coughs. Beets also have a stabilizing effect on the digestive system. They are excellent for stomach bleeding, severe constipation, and anemia.

Beets improve the immune system of the body. Some believe that eating beets destroys cancer cells. Maybe eating beets cannot eliminate the disease, but it certainly can extend the patient's life and improve its quality.

Beets also help stabilize the body's acidity level and treat chronic inflammation. Beets have no side effects, and most people easily digest them. To improve general health and treat chronic illnesses, they should be consumed over a long period. The average consumption is two medium-sized beet heads per day. The effectiveness of cooked beets is the same as raw beets or beet juice.

Water boiled with beets is effective for preventing hair loss, preventing and removing dandruff, and against skin dehydration and peeling.   

Aside from the many properties in the beet itself, the leaves are also very good for use since they are rich in vitamin E. However, it is important to know that beet leaves contain oxalic acid, so people suffering from kidney stones or arthritis should avoid consuming them.
