It's All in Your Eyes

By examining the iris, we can determine which organs aren't functioning correctly and why, as well as identify any diseases present in our bodies. Everything you wanted to know about iridology.

The art of iridological diagnosis has been known to our sages since ancient times. The saying, "The eyes are the mirror of the soul," holds deep meanings but also astonishing simplicity. We all know how to assess a person's mood at a glance without words (even a dog owner knows clearly that a dog "speaks" mostly through its eyes).

The eye is in fact neurological tissue connected by the optic nerve to extensive areas in brain tissue, transferring billions of nerve impulses every second. The brain acts like a powerful computer for the entire body, with the eye recording its messages and brain events from the time a person is in the womb, just like a computer records all information on a "hard drive."

Hippocrates (377-460 BCE) also used eye diagnosis, examining patients' eyes to determine their illnesses. The earliest scientifically recorded iridology text is by physician Philippus Meyens from the 17th century, detailing the physiological systems' reflection in the iris in his book, "chiromatica medica."

Dr. Van Peczely, the father of modern iridology, as a child found an owl with a broken leg, unable to fly. Upon examining its eyes, he noticed a dark mark in the eye corresponding to the broken leg side. When the leg healed, the mark in the eye also lightened as if healing. Peczely later became a surgeon, mapping patients' eye irises to the iridology map still used today.

Since then, iridology diagnostics have been extensively studied in Europe and America, adding emotional aspects and highly accurate diagnoses. Various bodily systems, like the musculoskeletal, digestive, brain, hormonal and reproductive, are all identified by different signs in the iris. Through the iris, we can discern which organs are underfunctioning and why, as well as identify current or past diseases—chronic and potential ones—and determine our body's inherent potential to overcome stages of illness. Hereditary diseases and predisposed weaknesses can also be detected through the iris.

Mental recordings are also marked in the iris, such as various traumas the body has or is undergoing, difficult relations with parents, emotional waste—bitterness, anger, fears, hypersensitivity, fatigue, learning abilities, and many other mental sensitivities.

The iridology diagnosis is done using a magnifying glass, flashlight, or a camera photographing the iris. The acquired image is analyzed by the diagnostician, providing a detailed and precise summary of the individual’s history from the womb to now. Treatment usually involves one or more naturopathy methods: diet and dietary supplements, Bach flowers, herbal medicine, and body-mind conversations, to encourage and support the body and spirit towards complete and swift recovery.

Indeed, the wonders of creation—and how great are Your works, Hashem. "From my flesh I see Hashem."
