Dr. Einat Yehene, a clinical neuropsychologist and rehabilitation psychologist, was interviewed by the 'Maariv' website and addressed the condition of hostages who have returned from captivity. According to her, captivity exposes victims to violent scenes, constant fear, nutritional deficiencies, and lack of sleep, which have left a deep mark on them.

"Under these conditions," she stated in an interview with Dr. Itay Gal, "psychological symptoms such as disorientation, memory disturbances, and inability to connect the experiences in captivity with the new reality are created." Dr. Yehene emphasized that the early days are critical: "It is important to create a safe and protective environment, avoiding exposure to triggers and providing information gradually."

According to her explanation, the rehabilitation process will require prolonged support, including motor, cognitive, and psychological treatments. Some hostages will need professional help such as speech therapy due to prolonged silence. In addition, the families themselves undergo significant trauma and need special guidance to cope with the new challenges.

She states, "This is a national task requiring both personal and family support. The support will last for years, and the treatment will focus on strengthening the sense of security, developing life skills, and restoring basic abilities."

Further in her remarks, she referred to the psychological challenges that accompany the hostages even after their return: "For many, even simple daily activities become complex. Some face feelings of disconnection, mistrust, or fears that continue to linger." Dr. Yehene concluded: "We must remember that the hostages need not only medical treatment but also an embrace from society and recognition of the difficult journey they have endured."
