How Does the Sun Keep Burning?
If I light a match, it burns and eventually extinguishes because its energy source depletes. So how does the sun emit such an enormous amount of energy for so many years without burning out? Why doesn't the sun shrink in size or extinguish?
Moreover, if I heat water and leave it as it is, eventually, it cools down because the surrounding environment is cooler. If so, why doesn't the sun, located in cold space, cool down and extinguish over time but remains "boiling" as always?
A candle requires oxygen to burn. It gets this oxygen from the Earth's atmosphere, and the fire we see during burning is energy released from the burning of oxygen. If there's no oxygen in space, how then does the sun "burn"?
The explanation is that the sun does not undergo combustion. Another process called nuclear fusion occurs there.
At the center of the sun, the temperature reaches about 15 million degrees. At these high temperatures, a nuclear fusion process occurs, transforming hydrogen gas into helium and releasing tremendous energy from the sun. This energy manifests as a lot of light and heat, appearing to us as fire. Thanks to this energy, we exist on Earth.
According to astrophysicists, "the sun is currently in the middle of its life span and has about 5 billion years left until its end. Eventually, it will contract into a small, luminous star with white hues - becoming a white dwarf."
In other words, according to them, the sun's energy source will eventually deplete, and its burning will end over the years. The sun will reach its end and extinguish! When the sun's "fuel" runs out, our life in the galaxy will end.
My question is not how the sun operates, but how the sun was created so perfectly in the first place?
Secondly, how is the rate of that "nuclear fusion" so precisely regulated, that the sunlight spreads to every corner of this world in the most precise amount for us, not too dark and not too bright?
Thirdly, it's not just the rate, but also the exact location of the sun in space that's amazing, because if the sun moved away from us, we would freeze, and if it came closer, we would burn from the heat. So, who placed the sun in its precise location?
In general, if their scientific explanation is so simple, why haven't researchers in labs, studying energy production processes, managed to master and replicate the process that makes the sun glow? After all, hydrogen is very common on Earth – every water molecule contains two hydrogen atoms!
Only a supreme power with infinite genius and unlimited ability could create a "fiery furnace" that lights up the entire world so perfectly!
Why Does Everyone Hate Us?
One of the unresolved mysteries of the world is the enigma of antisemitism. The Jewish people comprise about 0.5% of the world's population. The Jewish intellect has contributed immensely to humanity in various fields, such as Einstein's theory of relativity, waze, Iron Dome, Facebook, and many more. The People of Israel don't wage jihad or crusades. They live their lives without forcing others to convert.
Why, then, are they so hated? Such hostility towards us is incomprehensible.
Many researchers have struggled to find a reasonable explanation but have not succeeded. Indeed, there is no natural explanation, only a supernatural one, a secret revealed to us by Hashem through His prophet Ezekiel: "As you say, 'We will be like the nations...' I live, said the Lord Hashem, with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm and with poured-out wrath will I reign over you" (Ezekiel 20:32-33).
A respected community rabbi in the USA shared that as a young boy, he insisted on studying in a public school with non-Jews. After just a couple of weeks into his studies, three non-Jewish classmates began beating him at every opportunity, and he returned home crying daily until he broke down and decided to switch to a Jewish school. There he eventually found a love for the Torah, was ordained as a rabbi, and later took his esteemed community rabbi uncle's place. A few days before his uncle's passing, his uncle called him, held his hand, and asked, "Do you remember the classmates who beat you in high school? Why did they do that?" "I don't know," replied the nephew, embarrassed, "just antisemites. But I thank them for every punch because they kept me Jewish, and I was able to immerse myself in the Torah!" His uncle smiled weakly and said, "I paid them to beat you...".
This is precisely what is written in the words of Ezekiel regarding antisemitism in general. Whenever we try to connect with the non-Jews, there is someone above who sends them to hit us, to distance us from them, for our benefit! There is no story like this to illustrate the matter.
Falling on the Battlefield
Some people, if they took a moment to reflect, would not behave as they do, and I'm not speaking about the religious aspect right now.
One phenomenon I don't understand is how a woman takes her husband to the sea or pool for mixed bathing of men and women. To me, this is proof that a woman sees the world entirely differently than a man. How so? Very simple:
The mere idea of a woman taking her husband to a mixed beach is unequivocal proof that she doesn't know what goes on in a man's mind; otherwise, she wouldn't dare take him there!
A man's eyes wander, thoughts race, and desires grow, with just a hint being enough.
So, what are you doing, dear woman? You're essentially taking your husband to a battlefield where you've already lost. A field where you cannot meet the standards of the young women at the beach, standards that always place you at a disadvantage compared to those women. So why do you take your husband to a mixed beach?
There is a fundamental psychological difference between men and women. Each one is built differently, each with a different psyche. It's a mistake to think that the psychology of a woman is identical to that of a man. These differences stem from the spiritual roles of each in the world.
In his great work, "Mishneh Torah," Maimonides surprises the superficial reader by not providing equal guidance for both spouses but rather demanding different requirements from the husband and the wife. A person who does not understand the depth of the psychological differences between each spouse, when reading Maimonides' requirements for the man, will object to the man's "disfavor", and when reading his requirements for the woman, will object to the opposite – the woman's "disfavor". Yet, Maimonides teaches that each side must give to the other according to their psychological needs.
Moments of Despair
Everyone occasionally experiences feelings of despair and emptiness.
Remember the woman struggling to conceive, the one approaching thirty and still searching for her match, the couple recently in rabbinical court, and those who went through a series of medical treatments with their newborn son...
People seem to love to complain: work is "nothing special", the kids disappoint, and others seem to have more... But the truth is, even for those whose lives aren't paradise on earth – they are still living and breathing, making a living, and eating by Hashem's grace. Just one day in an oncology ward is enough to know how good life is. Just open a newspaper and see how fortunate we are to have arrived home safely.
In a beautiful article I read, it was written like this:
"I remember my sister called me one day and asked: 'How are you? What did you do today?' And I, feeling down, remembered the piles of laundry and the lunch that wasn't yet cooked, answered, 'Not much, took care of the child.' 'Well, you took care of the child!', she suddenly said with enthusiasm, 'That's big enough and important! Actually, it's the most important!'
To be honest, I didn't expect to hear that, and her simple words were like cold water to a tired soul. It truly refreshed me; suddenly, I felt a sense of meaning and purpose. I felt deep gratitude to the Creator of the Universe."
Friends, when a person looks and sees all the good that the Creator of the Universe does for them, how can they not be filled with a tremendous sense of gratitude? So thank you, Master of the Universe, for the countless acts of kindness and for all the wonders and miracles you perform for me every moment!
Electric Company in the Body
All the activity of the nerves and muscles in our bodies is essentially electrical activity. This activity is based on the transmission of electrical signals between cells to transmit information.
How does it work? On both sides of the cell membrane, there are atoms charged with either positive or negative electrical charges. The movement of these atoms, called ions, creates a difference between the positive and negative electrical charges inside and outside the cells, creating an electrical current.
The electrical activity in our body can be measured in much the same way as measuring electrical voltage in household appliances and various electronic components. For example, an EKG examination for checking heart irregularities examines the electrical activity of the heart, and determining brain death is done by examining the presence or absence of electrical activity in the brain.
If we have electrical activity within us, why don't we get electrocuted?
An electrical current is based on the difference between positive and negative electrical charges. These differences are created at the micro level, meaning only within the cells themselves. If we examine the human body as a whole, all those small differences "cancel out", resulting in no overall difference between positive and negative charges in our body, so it cannot electrify other bodies or generate electrical currents.
Who is the master electrician who created such a sophisticated and wonderful electrical system within us? How did "electrical ions," some negative and some positive, come into our body? Who is responsible for their distribution? Who ensures that the charge differences are balanced so that our body doesn't become electrified? Who created an electrical system without faults and short circuits within us?
Incidentally, not many are aware, but the study of electrical activity in muscles led to the invention of the battery.
The first to discover that nerve and muscle cells carry electrical signals was the 18th-century Italian physician and physiologist Luigi Galvani. According to the well-known story, during one of his experiments, Galvani hung frog legs on an iron railing using a copper hook and noticed that when connecting the muscle tips to the two different metals, a closed circuit was created and the frog's legs jumped due to an electrical phenomenon. Shortly thereafter, the physicist Alessandro Volta realized that the electrical phenomenon Galvani discovered was due to contact between the two different metals, and he developed the first electric battery, based on this principle ever since.
