Half Ton Weight on the Hip: 5 Points to Ponder

Why do our limbs tingle? What comes first, the chicken or the egg? Why do only eyes close during sleep? Explore more questions about the miraculous human body.

Tingling Sensation

I sat yesterday with my legs crossed. After a few minutes, I felt a loss of sensation in my leg, followed by tingling, tiny pricks, and a burning skin sensation. This strange phenomenon is known as "tingling," or professionally, paresthesia.

What is the physiological process causing this tingling sensation, and why is this uncomfortable feeling actually beneficial to us?

Our body is covered in a network of nerve fibers, tasked with transferring sensations from the body to the brain and sending commands from the brain to the rest of the body. For example, these nerve fibers are responsible for conveying sensations of heat or cold, pain, or pleasant touch from the skin to the brain.

Tingling occurs due to pressure on a specific body part, blocking blood supply to nerves in the area, preventing them from sending signals to the brain. For instance, falling asleep with a hand above the head or sitting with crossed legs might exert excess pressure on a specific nerve, halting nerve messaging to the spinal cord.

However, the good news is that tingling usually disappears by changing position and relieving pressure, allowing blood flow to resume to the affected organ. During this process, one may experience tingling (similar to needle pricks), but these sensations disappear within minutes as the nerve returns to normal function.

Consider: to prevent damage to our body's systems, the body operates a "control system" sending sharp and clear signals to change position. Could this extraordinary process, indicating a guiding and caring hand, really have arisen spontaneously without a creator and planner?

Fetus in the Womb

I have some questions that medicine cannot answer, perhaps you can help me?:

How does the fetus know in advance that it will emerge from the womb?

How does it predict it will inhale air and not amniotic fluid?

How is it possible for the birthing process to occur after a defined and constant period of 9 months without a guiding hand?

Could this extraordinary process, indicating a guiding and caring hand, really have arisen spontaneously without a creator and planner?

The Hip Joint

Studies have measured the function of the hip joint: Electrodes inserted into the joints of volunteers monitored what happens in the joint during walking or jumping. It was found that when a person weighing 70 kg jumps or descends stairs, the weight on the hip joint is seven times the body weight, meaning half a ton! How can this be?

To stabilize the body, muscles contract. The force of contraction is so strong that the pressure on each square centimeter of the joint is immense. The miracle is that despite this huge weight on the hip joint, the cartilage covering the joint does not wear out.

Logically, this cartilage, allowing smooth joint movement, should wear and deteriorate within a few years under such a heavy load. Any machine operating at a similar intensity would wear out within a relatively short few years. However, amazingly, the hip joint continues to function correctly throughout a person's lifetime!

Sometimes, a damaged hip joint must be replaced with an artificial one (prosthesis), but then there are many limitations. Surgery recipients are advised not to jump or run, yet the prosthesis wears out in 10 to 25 years. The best companies worldwide, using the best materials in the world, have yet to match the wonderful quality of the Creator's hip joint. "How great are Your works, Hashem!"

The Egg and the Chicken

Want logical proof of Hashem's existence? Concentrate...

Everything must have a starting point, right?

So who created you? Your parents. Who created them? Their parents. And who created their parents?... (similar to the egg and the chicken example - which came first) So we must continue back until inevitably arriving at the first person from whom everything started. Why? Because we all understand, like everything, there must be a starting point for our lives here! Humanity and life itself must begin from something!

Conclusion thus far: We necessarily understand there was a first person from whom it all began.

And I ask: If so, how was the first person created?

Answer: Necessarily not by a human cause. Why? Because then we return to the "egg and the chicken" example. Hence, the conclusion is that the first person must have been created by a non-human cause.

Why? Because by being the first person, he has no parents to be born from. Therefore, only a supreme force or non-human cause could have created a person ex nihilo, from nothing! Conclusion: There is a supreme force, a non-human cause, that created the first person from whom humanity began! As evidenced in the Torah: "And the Lord Hashem formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul" (Genesis 2:7).

Let's advance a level: It's clear that the first man could not have had offspring alone, but needed a woman for that. According to the same logic mentioned earlier, the woman must also be the handiwork of the same non-human force, because a person alone cannot create a person...

It goes without saying, this logical proof aligns with what is said in the Torah: "And Hashem said, 'Let us make man…'; And Hashem created man in His image, in the image of Hashem created He him; male and female created He them" (Genesis 1:26-27).

Friends! Logically, not blindly by faith, we have deduced a world created and planned by a non-human force, a supreme force. And this is none other than the Creator of the world!

Open Eyes

Have you ever thought about why, during sleep, among all the organs, only the eyes close? Why don't they stay open?

And why don't the ear or nostrils, for example, close during sleep? Why do only the eyes "function differently"?

It's because of a miracle and kindness from the Creator. The eye is an extremely sensitive and precious organ. Open eyes during sleep would be exposed to harmful stimuli that could damage the eye when there is no one to oversee it (as we are asleep at that time).

Indeed, harmful agents can also enter the ear and nostrils, but accessibility to them is lower, and thus the fear of damage is also lower. However, for the eye - any "touch," even the smallest, might damage the eye and affect vision.

Therefore, in the amazing complexity of our body's design, the Creator "ensured" that we close our eyes during sleep, thus saving us from worry about damage to such a vital organ for our functioning.

Could this extraordinary process, which indicates a guiding and caring hand, really have arisen spontaneously without a creator and planner?
