Practical guidance on Shabbat observance: can one lean on or climb a tree on Shabbat?

AA

Is it permissible to lean on or climb a tree on Shabbat?

It is forbidden to use a tree on Shabbat, therefore it is prohibited to climb a tree, lean on it, or place objects on it. It is also forbidden to remove a ball that got caught in a tree on Shabbat.

One who climbed a tree unintentionally may descend, but one who climbed intentionally should not come down until after Shabbat ends, though he is permitted to jump down [Chazon Ovadia 4, p. 93].

A child who climbed a tree intentionally is permitted to come down, since penalties do not apply to minors [Chazon Ovadia 4, p. 94].
