Is a children's teacher allowed to confiscate items from students?
When a teacher of young children sees that a student is holding an object or money that prevents them from learning or disturbs others, the teacher is permitted to take the item from the child with the intention of returning it later. However, taking it with the intention of not returning it at all, and certainly destroying it, is forbidden. If the teacher wants to show the object or money to the students, such as to teach them the form of a coin or similar, they must request permission from the child [Yalkut Yosef Siman 370].
Is it permissible to participate in the national lottery?
It is forbidden for Sephardim to purchase lottery tickets from the national lottery due to rabbinical prohibition of theft. All the more so, one should not purchase sports betting forms that involve games played on Shabbat [Yalkut Yosef Siman 370].
