In the book "Yisrael LeSgula", Rabbi Yaakov Yisrael Lugasi presents 3 tips that can help us overcome feelings of anger and manage our emotions effectively:
1. The Money Trick
In "Likutey Moharan", it is written that when the heavens wish to bestow wealth upon a person, they first test him with anger. If he withstands this test, he earns the wealth; if not, he loses it. The advice is to remember during a moment of anger that it may cause you financial loss.
2. Do Not Be Angry with Hashem
During anger, one should visualize himself as if he is actually angry with Hashem, since everything that happens to him is from the Creator. If he pays attention, he will realize he is rebelling against Hashem, which will create fear and thereby dispel his anger.
3. In that Moment, Harsh Decrees Are Annulled
When anger overcomes you, know that if you manage to control it, at that precise moment, Hashem will restrain His anger towards you, measure for measure, removing judgments and decrees from you. The sages regarded a person who does not get angry as someone beloved by Hashem. As the beloved of a king, what could he lack? Who could harm him?
Rabbi Lugasi concludes by stating that one should practice these 3 tips not while angry, but beforehand: "Reflect upon these 3 observations not during moments of anger, but be prepared with them, so that they naturally come to mind when anger arises, greatly benefiting you."
