#VALUE!
When Noga was 25 years old, she moved to a new city. She adjusted relatively easily to her new surroundings and to the changes that come with relocating. Naturally, though, her friendships from her hometown slowly faded. Noga made new friends, and her days were filled with activity.
Years later, just before Passover, she was doing a thorough cleaning of her room. While sorting through things, she came across photo albums she hadn’t looked at in ages. She became absorbed in the photos, flipping from one to the next. A wave of nostalgia washed over her- especially memories of a close friend from her childhood town. She stared at pictures from trips and shared experiences. She and that friend hadn’t spoken in three years.
The very next day, as Noga was walking to work like any ordinary morning, she saw that her childhood friend was calling. Coincidence? Probably not.
Telepathy and Soul Connections
Rabbi Eliyahu Dessler, one of the great Jewish thinkers and ethicists, writes in his book Michtav Me’Eliyahu: “It is known in nature that thoughts can be transferred between two people who are emotionally connected. This bond operates beyond the physical senses, transcending time and space. If this is possible between two individuals, how much more so on a spiritual level, where one soul can impact another.”
The Midrash (Jewish commentary) describes a form of telepathic connection between twins, where one twin feels physical pain simply because the other is suffering. When G-d appointed Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, Moses asked: "What should I tell the people when they ask me who sent me?" G-d responded: “Tell them that I am with them in their suffering.”
The Midrash explains this with a beautiful metaphor: "Just as when one twin has a headache, the other feels it too, so too, says G-d, 'I am with you in your pain.'" The connection between G-d and Israel is likened to that of twins who are deeply and unbreakably connected.
Quantum Physics and the Mystery of Connection
In a 1997 experiment conducted by physicist Nicolas Gisin at the University of Geneva, scientists took a photon (a basic particle of light) and split it into two separate photons. These two were then sent to towns 11 kilometers apart. When one photon was stimulated, the other reacted instantly and in the same way- even though it had not been exposed to the stimulus.
This phenomenon is known as quantum entanglement. It demonstrates that two particles originating from a single source remain fundamentally linked, even across vast distances. This principle helps explain why telepathy seems to occur most often between twins or soulmates- entities that spiritually speaking, began as one and later split into two.
Even if the physical connection between people is broken, a deep energetic or spiritual link may still exist.
One Soul, One Humanity
Applying this idea more broadly, Jewish tradition teaches that all of humanity was originally contained within the soul of Adam, the first human. Rabbi Chaim Vital writes in Sha’ar HaGilgulim (Gate of Reincarnations): “Know that all souls were originally included in the soul of Adam before his sin…and when he sinned, his spiritual limbs fell away- those are the individual souls that were once part of him.”
Although our souls now appear to be separate, we are all fundamentally connected. Thoughts and feelings directed at others can truly reach them on a metaphysical level.
Creation itself began from a single origin point, and therefore everything in existence is interconnected The entire universe is woven together.
Love Your Neighbor- Because You Are One
The Malbim, a classic Torah commentator, writes in HaTorah VeHaMitzvah about the deeper spiritual reason behind the commandment “Love your neighbor as yourself”: “All human beings are tied together like one body. Each was created in the image of G-d, contributing to the full form of the Divine likeness that encompasses all of humanity. We are as one person, one body composed of many parts.”
He also writes: “It is well known that all worlds are unified…Just as all the organs of the human body unite into one person, so too is all of reality and the worlds beyond interlinked.”
