Are going to sleep late and regretting it in the morning? How many times have you promised yourself to be early for prayers, only for sleep to ruin your plans?
In his book "Nafshi B'She'alati," Rabbi Yaakov Yisrael Lugasi lists several practical tips worth adopting to start the day on time. We've selected 6 of them:
1. Go to sleep early—if you're not lazy about sleeping, you won't be lazy about waking up.
2. Make sure you get the recommended hours of sleep for your health. It is generally recommended to sleep 7-8 hours, but everyone knows how many hours their body needs to function well and be alert the next day.
3. In Pirkei Avot it says, "Make for yourself a friend". Ask a good friend to wake you up in the morning and nag you until you get up.
4. Use fines. Every time you wake up late, penalize yourself even with a small fee. It will do the trick.
5. It is worth learning about the virtue of prayer for success. When prayer is precious to the individual, the level of effort will accordingly increase.
6. Rabbi Lugassi sums up the advice with a powerful line from the book Shomer Emunim: "Someone who delays getting up to pray – their future improvement will also be delayed."
