Is one required to take tefillin from home or can one rely on tefillin found at the synagogue?
The Mishnah Berurah [110, 20] writes that one who needs to travel must take tefillin with him, and not rely on tefillin that he might find there because several obstacles can occur if he doesn't have tefillin with him, such as: theft, or the tefillin not being the right size for him, or blessing over invalid tefillin, etc.
Is a traveler permitted to pray while wearing hiking clothes?
When a person prays, they should be dressed in respectable clothes that would be appropriate for meeting respected individuals. Therefore, hikers should be careful not to pray while wearing shorts, sandals, or when they are sweaty [Shulchan Aruch 91, 5], and the same applies for Birkat Hamazon (Grace After Meals) [Shulchan Aruch 183, 8].
