Throughout his adult life, Varela was extremely overweight. When he reached a peak weight of 226 kilograms (498 pounds), he began transforming his life. "I was tired of eating non-stop and constantly giving in to temptation. I was always looking for something to eat, and when I wasn't eating, I was thinking about food."
Recently, the 29-year-old from the United States achieved the revolutionary goal he set for himself. "Back then, I was eating endless amounts of junk food and doing no exercise at all. I was constantly snacking on unhealthy food, drinking alcohol, and completely ignoring what I was putting into my body."
When he reached that all-time high weight of 226 kilograms, he was horrified. "I realized I had to change. I couldn't keep going like that- it wasn't who I wanted to become."
With the help of a personal fitness coach and a dedicated nutritionist, Varela cut all unhealthy items from his diet, began eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, and eliminated alcohol entirely. At the same time, he committed to daily workouts. The transformation took him a year and a half, but today, he is proud of the result. "When I look in the mirror now, I’m happy. This is exactly what I dreamed of and wanted, and I plan to continue this lifestyle to maintain both my physical and mental balance," he says.
Curious? Here's a quick glimpse at his "before and after" which might inspire you to take the leap toward your own change, without fear or hesitation.
