Practical halachic guidance for the holiday: Understanding Kiddush requirements and permitted activities on Yom Tov

AA

How should one fulfill the mitzvah of Kiddush if not intending to eat immediately?

Kiddush is valid only when followed by a meal. Therefore, if someone returns home after morning prayers and wants to make Kiddush but plans to have a bread-based meal only after several hours, they must eat at least a kazayit (olive-sized portion) of cake that contains a substantial amount of flour [not cheesecake] or drink a revi'it of wine. However, if one makes Kiddush and only drinks a hot beverage or eats just cheesecake, they have not fulfilled their obligation [Yalkut Yosef, Section 273].

Is it permitted to shower with hot water on Yom Tov?

It is permitted to shower with hot water that was heated by a solar water heater on Yom Tov [Chazon Ovadia Yom Tov].
