How does one fulfill the mitzvah of "Rejoicing on your festival"?
A person must bring joy to his family members during the festival by purchasing a gift for his wife that she can use for the holiday, and for his sons and daughters he should buy sweets.
It is also a great mitzvah to bring joy to Torah scholars, and anyone who does not bring them joy does not fulfill the obligation of rejoicing on the festival [Chazon Ovadia Yom Tov, p. 99].
Is one obligated to eat meat on the holiday?
Even in our time, there is a Torah commandment to fulfill the mitzvah of "Rejoicing on your festival" by eating meat and drinking wine. Although the main mitzvah involves eating animal meat, someone who cannot eat animal meat for health or kashrut reasons can fulfill the mitzvah of rejoicing by eating poultry [Yalkut Yosef Siman 494, Yechaveh Daat 6, 33].
