Is it permissible to put salt on beans or cucumber?
It is forbidden to put salt on vegetables [Shabbat 108b], therefore it is forbidden to put salt on beans or green beans, even though they were cooked in their shells. However, if the beans were cooked with salt before Shabbat, it is permissible to add salt to them on Shabbat [Shulchan Aruch 321, 6, Kaf HaChaim].
Is it permissible to prepare a salad on Shabbat?
It is permissible to cut a salad even into thin pieces if one intends to eat it immediately. However, if one cuts it to set aside for later use, it is forbidden [Chazon Ovadia p. 265].
