Is it permitted to tie two knots one on top of the other on Shabbat?
Two knots tied one on top of the other are not considered a knot, and it is permitted to tie them on Shabbat. The same applies to a knot at the end of a string, which is considered as two knots according to the basic law and is therefore permitted, though one who is stringent should be blessed [Chazon Ovadia 5, p. 62].
It is forbidden to tighten the upper knot of tzitzit that has become loose [Chazon Ovadia 5, 65].
Is it permitted to use zip ties on Shabbat?
It is permitted to use zip ties on Shabbat, and this involves neither the prohibition of tying nor sewing [Chazon Ovadia p. 75].
Is it permitted to wrap a wire around the top of a cookie or bread bag?
A wire that is wrapped around the end of a bag may be opened and rewrapped on Shabbat, and this does not constitute tying at all [Chazon Ovadia p. 77].
