Lag BaOmer Customs
On Lag BaOmer, we increase our joy in honor of the holy Tanna Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai. The reason for lighting bonfires on this day is to allude to the fact that on the day Rabbi Shimon revealed his final secrets, the sun did not set, and the house was surrounded by fire [Nitei Gavriel, p. 351].
Shabbat Laws
Is a father permitted to lift his young child when the child is holding muktzeh?
A person may pick up his child who is holding a stone if the child longs for his father, as the child may become ill if his father does not pick him up. However, if the child does not have such longing, it is forbidden. And if the child is holding a coin, it is forbidden for the father to hold the child's hand, lest the coin fall and the father come to handle muktzeh [Chazon Ovadia 3, p. 170].
