Fixing the World Starts with You: A Powerful Story About Self-Change

There are people who are convinced that their sole purpose in life is to fix the world. Somehow, it’s crystal clear to them that this mission was assigned to them since the beginning of time. They are relentless, and they will do anything and everything to fix everyone...that is, except themselves.

The Puzzle of the World

A well-known professor was once sitting in his study, immersed in work, when his young son burst into the room, asking to play. Trying to keep the child occupied, the professor quickly tore a page from one of his books- a page with a map of the world on it. He cut it into small pieces and handed it to the boy.

"Here," he said, "take this broken-up world and see if you can put it back together."

He was certain he had just bought himself a few hours of peace.

But to his astonishment, within less than an hour, the boy came back with the entire map perfectly assembled.

The professor was stunned. “How did you do that? You’ve never even seen a world map before!”

The boy smiled. “True, I didn’t know what the world looked like. But when you tore the page from the journal, I noticed that on the other side was a picture of a person. I couldn’t fix the world, so I flipped the pieces over and started fixing the person. And when I finished putting the person together, I turned it back over and saw the world was fixed too.”

When I heard this story, I immediately wanted to send it to everyone I know who works full-time as self-appointed world-fixers. I even considered asking them if they get paid for their tireless, thankless work...

But then I stopped myself. After all, I’m not here to fix them. On second thought, why should they be the only ones constantly busy and fulfilled?

I quickly realized that I can take on a similar role that offers incredible rewards, deep personal satisfaction, and the most unique, one-of-a-kind team dynamic.

Sure, it’s a lifelong commitment: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for 120 years. But it was tailor made just for me: Self-work. Self-growth. Self-transformation.

Now that’s a job worth doing.
