#VALUE!
One of the deepest desires most people share is to live a life of abundance and prosperity. In a previous article, we explained that true abundance begins with how we feel about ourselves. Prosperity doesn’t mean having a certain amount of money, but having the freedom to act when we choose, to pursue our dreams, and to express who we truly are.
The phrase “financial prosperity” doesn’t refer to how much money you have, but to your inner state. As the sages taught: “Who is rich? One who rejoices in their portion.” Abundance- or the lack of it- is merely an external reflection of the beliefs and thoughts in our minds.
Abundance encompasses time, love, success, joy, beauty, comfort, wisdom, and more. A person can be financially poor but rich in time. If you feel you have all the time you need to complete tasks and trust in your ability to follow through, you are “rich in time”. If however you allow others to rush, pressure, or stress you, you are “time-poor.”
Do you feel that success is out of reach, or do you believe you can succeed in anything you plan, start, or desire? If you believe in your power to succeed, then you are already “rich in success”.
Abundance Visualization Exercise
To tap into your infinite potential for abundance, try this simple visualization:
Picture yourself standing at the edge of the ocean. This vast sea represents the abundance waiting for you. Now look at your hands- what tool are you holding to collect that abundance? A spoon? A cup? A pitcher? A bucket? A bathtub? Or perhaps a giant pipe directly connecting you to the ocean?
It doesn’t matter how many people are around you or what containers they’re holding. The ocean is endless. No one can take what is meant for you. As the sages say: “No person can touch what is designated for their fellow- not even by a hair's breadth.” You cannot deplete the ocean of abundance.
Expand Prosperity Awareness
Once or twice a day, sit in a chair, open your arms wide, and say aloud: “I am open and ready to receive all the goodness and abundance of the world with ease, joy, and love.”
This act sends a message of expansion to your subconscious. You can also say:
“Infinite abundance flows freely into my life, and I receive it with ease.”
“There is abundance for everyone, and for me.”
“I accept with joy and love everything I need.”
“My income flows to me from multiple sources and unlimited abundance.”
Be Aware of Your Beliefs
Start paying attention to your beliefs about money, abundance, and prosperity. Regardless of your beliefs at this moment, they can be changed. Focus your thoughts on receiving abundance and reduce thoughts of lack and despair. Whatever you focus on expands. If you focus on abundance, it will grow, and the opposite is also true.
Expand Your Prosperity by Expanding Your Desires
In the verse “You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living being,” King David reveals a deep secret: abundance flows from G-d in response to our desire.
The Hebrew word for “desire” (ratzon) rearranged spells “created” (natzor)- and also “pipe” (tzinor). Everything is created from desire. Our desire becomes the channel through which abundance flows.
G-d is not limited by time, means, methods, or money. He can fulfill any desire exactly as we imagine it. The problem is that we often don’t believe this is true, or we’ve never learned how to activate it. As children, we were told repeatedly: “You can’t always get what you want.” We internalized that belief, and stopped wanting. When we stop wanting, we stop receiving.
We must let go of how and when our desires will be fulfilled. That part belongs to G-d. He provides what we need at the right time, in the right way, and in the right amount. This understanding is the foundation of faith and trust.
How Will My Desires Be Fulfilled? Through Imagination
One wise sage said, “If you wanted something and didn’t get it- it means you didn’t imagine it.” That’s the secret of the human imagination, which mirrors the Creator. Just as G-d is unlimited, so is our power to imagine. Imagination is not bound by time, form, means, or place. The clearer and more vividly we imagine what we desire- as if it already exists in reality- the more energy we generate to receive it. When we truly see it in our mind’s eye, we attract it.
Feeling Worthy of Receiving
If we don’t believe we’re worthy of abundance, we will unconsciously find ways to push it away, even if it falls right into our lap. How often do we say, “I can’t believe this is happening!” when something good happens? If you don’t believe good things can happen to you, you won’t be open to receiving them.
Instead, try believing: “I am worthy of all the good in the world unconditionally.” The more this belief becomes part of you, the more you become a vessel ready to receive.
Gratitude Opens the Gates
Gratitude multiplies what we already have. The more we appreciate, the more we are given. For a powerful daily practice, take a sheet of paper, title it “My Gratitude List”, and write 50 things you’re thankful for. Start each line with: “Thank G-d I have…” (e.g., “a warm shower,” “a comfortable bed,” “a stocked kitchen,” “a good friend.”)
Don’t dismiss anything- thank G-d for every small and large blessing. You'll find that the list of what you have, far outweighs what you lack. As the prophet Malachi says: “Until your lips wear out from saying ‘enough!’”
Gratitude in Our Blessings
Gratitude is also expressed in the blessings we say daily. The great scholar the Chida said: “A blessing for wealth: say Birkat HaMazon out loud, from a written text, with joy and heartfelt intent- and I guarantee wealth.”
Rabbi Shach also emphasized that Birkat HaMazon recited this way brings immense spiritual and material goodness.
Rabbi Shimshon Pincus added that if we would just say the blessing “Shehakol nihyah bidvaro” (that all was created by His word) slowly and with focus, no one would ever lack sustenance- for everything comes from Him.
Next time you lift a glass of water, pause. Bless mindfully. Focus on every word. Trust that G-d will fill every need and open the treasures of abundance before you. Believe, and you will receive.
