The Rambam in the Torah - A Prophecy Encoded and Fulfilled

How the existence of the Rambam and his famous work were encoded in the Torah over 3,300 years ago.

As is well known, the written Torah is divided into three parts: "Torah", "Nevi’im" (Prophets), and "Ktuvim" (Writings), and is abbreviated as "Tanakh". The part called "Nevi’im" is named for the many famous prophecies it contains, received from the heavens by illustrious prophets, which have significance for the future of Israel in later generations — until the coming of our righteous Messiah. However, many prophecies are not only found in the "Nevi’im" section of the Tanakh but also in the Torah and Writings. Additionally, there are prophecies that were not explicitly written but were cryptically encoded, known to those wise in mystical wisdom [in Kabbalistic tradition], passed down from generation to generation.

An intriguing example — one of many — of future knowledge encoded in the Torah is the appearance of our teacher "Rambam" [Rabbi Moses Ben Maimon] and his great, significant, and unique work "Mishneh Torah", encoded over two thousand five hundred years before his appearance on the stage of history.

As is known, chronologically, our teacher Rabbi R'benM’sheB’n M’imon — the "Rambam" — lived in Egypt approximately eight hundred years ago, while the written and oral Torah was given to the people of Israel after they had stayed forty-nine days [49] in the Sinai Desert — on the fiftieth day after leaving Egypt — more than three thousand three hundred years ago, as mentioned – about two thousand five hundred years before the birth of Rambam. Astonishingly, the giver of the Torah had pre-recorded in it — what was to happen, in an amazing prophetic code, in the Book of "Exodus", starting from verse 9 of chapter 11: "And Hashem said unto Moses, Pharaoh will not listen to you — so that My wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt".

Remarkably, in this verse: a) Moses is explicitly mentioned; b) the initials of Rambam’s name appear; c) the fact that wonders are destined to occur in the land of Egypt. The name of Rambam's amazing work: "Mishneh Torah" — begins to be referenced through fixed letter intervals, from the first "M" in Moses - with the well-known sage's saying: "From Moses to Moses, there was none like Moses".

As mentioned, Moses was sent to Egypt by Hashem to perform wonders of the Almighty in Egypt. And it is well known, Rambam’s work: "Mishneh Torah" — addressing all 613 commandments of the written Torah — is considered an intellectual marvel in its organization, astonishing in its clarity, and unique in its breadth [in many books, several rabbis refer to Rambam by the title: "The Golden Tongue"]; and "Mount Sinai Revelation" [i.e., receiving the Torah] occurred — after forty-nine days [49] in the wilderness — on the fiftieth day of leaving Egypt.

Moreover, incredibly, the giver of the Torah — indeed, wonder upon wonder, and the name of Rambam's work: "Mishneh Torah", starting from this stated verse, follows this sequence: the first word: "Mishneh", begins with letter skips of 49 letters, from letter to letter, from the first "M" in the verse — in the name "Moses" — corresponding to the 49 days of preparation before receiving the Torah [which was given on the fiftieth day]; and the second word: "Torah", begins with letter skips of 613 letters, from the first "M" in the same verse — in the name "Moses" — corresponding to the 613 commandments of the Torah, which the work: "Mishneh Torah", addresses, with each letter in this word: "Torah", presented in letter skips of 49 letters, as mentioned earlier.

For the convenience of readers, we hereby present an impressive diagram illustrating all the aforementioned [note: some of the following data are taken from Rabbi Mordechai Neugroschel's book: "Journey to the Summit of Mount Sinai", and were adapted for this article]:

Although this example is one of thousands, its power is truly overwhelming: "Reviving the dead and awakening the dormant" — it can be assumed that any addition to the above would be contrary to the rabbinic maxim (Sanhedrin 29a): "He who adds, detracts", because the facts speak for themselves!

Again, we stand amazed at the power of the Torah and the power of its giver — the Creator of the world, blessed be His name. And for this, we say: "How blessed are we, how good is our portion, how pleasant is our lot, and how beautiful indeed is our inheritance".

May it be His will that we merit complete repentance and a close redemption, along with all of Israel — speedily in our days, Amen and Amen.
