Whether buying a home, choosing a marriage partner, or starting a new business, many of us find ourselves overwhelmed when facing major life decisions. It’s easy to feel confused, anxious, and unsure of which path to take. What if there was another way—a perspective rooted in faith and trust in G-d that helps us reach the right decision at every stage of life?

Rabbi Yaakov Yisrael Lugasi, in his book Yisrael L’Segulato, writes: “A person who lacks clarity in business decisions, or doesn’t know which property to buy, or struggles to make a decision about a match—they must believe that when it comes to matters of this world, it is G-d who guides a person on how to act: where to invest, what to say, what not to say, and especially in matters of marriage, which are completely in G-d’s hands. As taught in Duties of the Heart (Sha’ar HaBitachon, Chapter 3), a person is only obligated to make reasonable efforts, but in the end, what happens is what was already decreed. As the verse says, ‘For it is He who gives you the power to succeed,’ which is interpreted as: G-d gives you the advice and guidance to acquire assets.”

When facing uncertainty, whether in business, buying a home, or choosing a partner, one must believe that G-d is the true source of direction. We are obligated to make sensible efforts, but the outcome is already written. Our task is to act with our best judgment, while placing our trust in the One who controls the results.

Rabbi Lugasi continues: “When a person truly believes this with complete faith, and lets go of the need to control the outcome—knowing that everything is already decreed by G-d—and repeats the following declaration sincerely several times, they draw down Divine kindness and will succeed in their endeavors. For one who trusts in G-d’s guidance brings His favor upon themselves, and G-d will ensure the best possible outcome for them.”

A Declaration to Say Before Making a Major Decision

"I believe with complete faith that in matters of this world, a person has no true control. My only obligation is to make reasonable efforts. Therefore, I accept upon myself to believe that whatever I ultimately decide—to buy this property, to pursue this business opportunity, or to move forward in this relationship—was already decreed for me from Heaven. And I further accept that even if I am disappointed by the outcome, I will not become bitter or angry—not at G-d (Heaven forbid), nor at any person or cause. I will place no blame, because I believe with full faith that I am in G-d’s hands, like clay in the hands of the potter. It is the decree that creates the circumstances, not the circumstances that create the decree."

The decisions we make in life are not only the result of logic or external circumstances, but are influenced by a higher, Divine plan. When we internalize this and trust that G-d is guiding us toward what is best, we invite blessing and success into our lives.

The next time you're facing a major decision, remember that the key to clarity and confidence lies in your faith and trust in G-d. Make your best effort, and let Him take care of the rest.
