Practical Ways to Strengthen Faith in Mashiach and Hasten Redemption

Simple daily actions every Jew can do to bring Mashiach closer

AA

Belief in the coming of the Mashiach is a central foundation of Jewish faith, as we declare in Maimonides’ Thirteen Principles: “I believe with perfect faith in the coming of the Messiah, and even though he may delay, I will wait for him every day to come.”

It is further stated: “Anyone who does not believe in him (the Messiah), or does not await his coming, not only denies the other prophets, but also denies the Torah and Moses our teacher” (Mishneh Torah, Laws of Kings 11:1).

It is not enough merely to believe in Mashiach and passively wait for him, but we are called to take action to hasten his arrival. Each of us has the power to help bring the redemption closer.

Following are five simple and practical ways to strengthen faith in the coming of Mashiach and to help hasten the redemption.

1. Study the Prophecies

Learning the various prophecies about Mashiach in the Torah and Midrashim strengthens faith and deepens understanding of the future redemption. Set aside regular time each week to study these prophecies. Join classes, find sources online, or participate in study groups.

2. Pray for the Coming of Mashiach

Prayer is a powerful tool for strengthening belief. Add personal requests for Mashiach's coming in both private and communal prayers. In the daily Amidah prayer, focus deeply on the blessing of “Et Tzemach David”.

3. Perform Mitzvot with the Intention of Redemption

Carrying out mitzvot with the conscious intention of bringing Mashiach can transform our actions into steps toward redemption. See every good deed as a contribution. For example, when giving charity, say in your heart: “May this help bring Mashiach closer.”

4. Work Toward Jewish Unity

Mashiach will come when there is peace and unity among the Jewish people. Take steps to bring people closer, resolve conflicts, and foster community. Join social initiatives that promote togetherness, volunteer in organizations that spread kindness, and act as a peacemaker in family or friendship disputes.

5. Speak About Mashiach in Daily Conversations

Mentioning Mashiach in conversations with friends and family strengthens belief and creates an atmosphere of anticipation. When discussing the future, share the hope of redemption. Speaking of it openly nurtures faith and keeps the longing alive.

By learning, praying, doing mitzvot with intention, fostering unity, and keeping Mashiach in our conversations, we can all take part in hastening the redemption and strengthening our faith.
