There Is None Besides Him: Trusting God’s Kindness in Every Moment

Why all blessings, health, and hope depend only on the Creator — and how this truth strengthens faith

Every kindness ever shown to us since the beginning of our existence is from the Creator, blessed be He. Just as when we were born, He ensured that we would receive nourishment at exactly the right time, and mother’s milk begins to flow precisely an hour after birth. This food is perfectly designed for the newborn, so much so that every company that produces formula admits that nothing can surpass the benefits of a mother’s milk.

In the same way, at every stage of childhood the Creator provided exactly what we needed: the immune system began functioning at the right moment, as did the digestive system. In fact, every system in our body was set to begin working at the most precise and appropriate time for our growth.

When a Jew recognizes that throughout his entire life the Creator has taken care of all his needs, he then understands that just as God has helped him in the past, He will continue to do so in the future. With this realization, it becomes much easier to trust that God will always extend His abundant kindness.

“There Is None Besides Him”

A person must know in his heart that there is no power in existence other than the Creator. None of His creations can help or harm without His will and consent.

Like a servant locked in prison, completely under the control of the guard. No outsider is allowed in. Such a servant would never waste his time begging strangers outside for help, for he knows they have no power to change his situation. Instead, all his requests, hopes, and efforts are directed solely toward the guard who holds the keys. His only concern is to find favor in his eyes, for only he has the ability to decide.

So too, the Jew understands that no person in the world can help him unless God allows it. Even his health depends entirely on the will of the Creator, for He is the very source of life itself. All of his hopes and trust must therefore rest on God alone.

It is similar to a man who needs a loan from a bank. The final decision lies with the bank manager, not the junior clerks. It would make no sense to put his trust in the employees who have no authority, when the decision rests solely in the hands of the manager.

In all matters of this world and the World to Come, we must recognize that the sole authority lies with the King of Kings. Once we know this, all of our trust, effort, and hope will be directed to Him alone.
