The importance and benefit of the attribute of trust in God, what awaits you when you attain this trust, and how it can help you achieve all your heart's desires without ever knowing lack, cannot be overstated.

The recitation of verses of trust in God have the power to strengthen a person's trust in their Creator and to deliver them from all trouble. The more we internalize these verses in our hearts, the more our trust will strengthen within us.

"Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, and whose heart departs from Hashem" "He shall be like a juniper in the desert" (Yirmiyahu 17:5-6).

A person who places trust in people, thinking they can help or harm him, constantly scheming in his heart how to convince this one or how to find favor in that one's eyes, will inevitably have his heart depart from God. For as much as he thinks about people, he does not think about God, thereby removing his trust from his God.

Many years ago, my family and I took a trip to the Jordan River during the summer break when the heat in the country was at its peak. On the trip, I noticed that all the trees far from the river had dried up, while those growing on the river remained green and fresh as in winter.

Then I understood the words of the prophet Yirmiyahu (17:7-8): "Blessed is the man who trusts in Hashem, and Hashem shall be his trust. He shall be as a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and shall not feel it when heat comes, and its leaf shall be green; and in the year of drought, it shall not be anxious, nor shall it cease from yielding fruit."

The prophet teaches that a person who trusts in Hashem does not fear the coming heat, or the looming recession, or Heaven forbid, rampant epidemics, because he knows that with the Creator, there is no recession or cash shortage, and certainly no inflation issues.

One who trusts in Hashem is like a tree planted by the Jordan River, a tree that "scoffs" at the weather forecasts, because he knows "I am by the water source, and my fruits are always fresh and good, even if no rain falls, I am set." Thus, the one who trusts in God, whether the economy is declining or rising, knows in his heart that he is connected to the supreme source of all the world's money, and with Him, there are no lacks or shortages, only abundance and ease.

"Surely I have calmed and quieted myself, as a weaned child with his mother" (Tehillim 131:2).

The Vilna Gaon explains that in this verse, King David reaches the highest level of trust in Hashem, just like a baby with no worries about what will he eat for dinner, or how to pay the mortgage on the house, etc.

When my little daughter was born, I was learning this verse, observing her actions to learn what true trust is, and I discovered perfect living.

After a meal, she is picked up to burp and then laid down on the bed with a smile on her lips, falling asleep so peacefully. When she wakes feeling uncomfortable due to a wet diaper, she doesn't look worried at all, she only cries, and immediately someone runs to change her.

A baby has no worries about the future, and all her cares are to suck on her food and find a comfortable position to sleep. When she grew and moved to sleep in a regular bed, one night half of her body fell out of the bed, I waited to see what she would do.

She woke up realizing she was uncomfortable, but she didn't even try to climb back into bed, she just called "Mommy... Mommy..." When we are in pain, we are to simply call out the same way a child naturally does.

The Vilna Gaon wrote about the importance of trust in his book Even Shleima (Chapter 3) and explains that trust and contentment encompass all good attributes.
