Have you ever found yourself waiting endless days for an avocado to ripen, only to find it's still hard? Don't worry – there is a way to accelerate the ripening process and make the avocado soft and tasty in just ten minutes.
If you want an avocado and it's still hard, there is a simple solution that allows you to enjoy a ripe and tasty avocado without waiting days. All you need is an oven and aluminum foil.
Wrap the avocado in aluminum foil as you would a potato, place it on a baking sheet, and bake it in an oven preheated to 90 degrees Celsius. After 10 minutes, or 15 if your oven is not hot enough, take it out. The avocado will be soft and can easily be mashed or sliced for a sandwich.
The heat in the oven causes the ethylene gas emitted by the avocado to disperse more quickly, thus speeding up the ripening process. It's important to note that although the avocado put in the oven will be soft, it will not achieve the same quality as an avocado that ripens naturally – the heat is faster, but doesn't necessarily lead to a perfect result.
Beyond the great taste, avocado is considered a particularly healthy food. Research conducted at the University of Oklahoma found that avocado can improve heart health. The antioxidants and healthy fats in it may lower bad cholesterol (LDL) levels and increase good cholesterol (HDL) levels, reducing the risk of heart disease.
