An unusual incident in New Zealand has ignited social media: a brief video circulated online showing lawyer Paul Fisher from Waikato confronting pro-Palestinian protesters, calling them 'anti-Semitic pigs' and demanding explanations for their silence on the massacres in Israel. The footage, only about 40 seconds long, garnered thousands of comments and significant public attention.
According to reports, the incident occurred in Cambridge last Shabbat during a protest by the group Cambridge for Palestine, part of the Palestine Solidarity Network New Zealand. During the confrontation, Fisher shouted at the protesters holding signs demanding the salvation of Gaza and posed challenging questions about their stance on Hamas attacks.
Following the incident, formal complaints were submitted to the New Zealand Bar Association, but so far, there has been no official response. Fisher's law firm, Clancy Fisher Oxner & Bryant, has also chosen to remain silent.
John Minto, Chairman of the Palestine Solidarity Network, offered Fisher an opportunity for an in-depth discussion on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict but criticized his remarks harshly: "It is clear he does not understand the complexity of the situation. What was said there is simply appalling."
Pro-Palestinian author Shanil Lal was among the first to share the video and called on the Bar Association to investigate the incident: "Such behavior undermines the profession of law." Angela Sylvia, an activist from Palestine Waikato, also joined the calls, claiming Fisher's words are unworthy of a representative of the legal system.
While the public uproar continues, Fisher himself has yet to respond to the reports surrounding the event.
