A fascinating story has captured headlines in the UK recently: James Howells, a resident of Newport, Wales, believes he accidentally lost his enormous fortune—over £600 million in Bitcoin—after his ex-wife threw away the hard drive containing the coins.
According to reports, the computer was discarded back in 2013. So what does the husband want now? He has discovered that the computer is at an old landfill site in the city and is considering purchasing the site to search for the lost coins himself.
Howells claims he's been trying to locate the lost coins for many years. The coins were once worth much more, and the chance of finding them is dwindling, especially after Newport City Council announced plans to close the landfill site in 2025.
After his legal efforts failed (the court rejected his request for a search warrant), Howells is not giving up and is proposing to buy the entire site. "If the city council agrees, I would definitely consider it," he stated in media interviews.
Despite the legal setback, Howells remains optimistic and says he is discussing the offer with his business partners. "It's very tempting, and a creative solution can be found for this case as well," he noted, adding that this step is definitely on the table.
Will he succeed in reclaiming his lost fortune? While the city council plans to close the site, he still hopes the story won't end here and that the plan will come to fruition.
