New scam in Dubai: Young tourists at luxury hotel clubs report a crazy credit card scam.
Recently, a 35-year-old vacationing with his friends at a luxury hotel in Dubai ordered beer and other alcoholic drinks. While his friends paid in cash, Meni chose to pay by credit card and was told it was only 50 shekels. "A few minutes later, the waiter returned my credit card with a receipt, and we headed back to the hotel."
However, hours later, he suddenly discovered that his credit card was charged 5,700 Dirhams, about 5,100 shekels.
Meni couldn't believe his eyes.
He tried to recount everything he purchased during the vacation, but nothing could possibly add up to such an astronomical amount. "I was in shock," he told 'Mako' in an interview. "I had a glass of beer, a third-half, I don't remember exactly. I quickly called the credit card company and canceled the card, and then I found out someone booked a suite in a luxury hotel in Dubai under my name and paid from my account."
Thus, instead of touring and enjoying, Meni found himself busy with calls to the credit card company's customer service to cancel the charge. "My entire vacation was ruined," he concludes.
