#VALUE!
The Orthodox community has been astir for several weeks due to the following story, and for good reason: About a month ago, a resident of Tel Zion suddenly passed away after experiencing chest pain the previous night. During the night, he asked his son to quickly go to the study hall to learn Torah in his merit, referencing the saying, 'He who feels heart pain should engage in Torah study.' When the son returned from learning, he found his father lying on the floor, dying, and within seconds, his soul departed.
Meanwhile, at the same moment, another tragedy unfolded in a different family in the area: A two-month-old infant born with a heart defect passed away in the hospital after resuscitation efforts failed.
How is this connected to the previous story? You'll soon understand.
According to a report by Yaakov Avovitz from 'JDN', a few months earlier, the deceased had borrowed 2,600 shekels with a promissory note co-signed by another resident. The due date was three days after the borrower's death, and the lender, unaware of the tragedy because he was abroad, tried to contact the borrower via his mobile phone.
The borrower's young son answered the call, apologized, and explained that it was not possible to speak with his father. But when the lender insisted, the son referred him to a rabbi who would 'explain'.
It's the 'promissory note' that's preventing his rest
The lender understood there was no choice but to contact the rabbi, and only then did he realize that the money he lent would not be returned. However, just one day after speaking with the rabbi, a resident of the area had a dream.
In his dream, he saw the deceased looking happy but slightly distressed. When he asked why, the deceased replied that a 'promissory note' was preventing his peace. When the dreamer awoke, he couldn't shake the dream's impact and shared it with a friend—remarkably, someone who had heard of the debt the previous day from the lender himself, who lamented the lost money.
The two friends spoke for a long time until a third person joined their conversation and heard the story firsthand. Later, as the third person continued on his way, he met a close friend of the deceased and relayed what he had just learned about the debt revealed in the dream.
That same day, the baby's father managed to gather half of the debt
Who was this friend he met? None other than the father of the infant who had died that very day. Upon hearing about the debt, the infant's father immediately decided to pay it in gratitude.
Before he was taken from this world, the deceased had gone on a prayer journey to the graves of righteous people for the healing of his friend's sick daughter, who was a delicate infant. That same day, the infant's father succeeded in raising half the debt left by his friend, and when he returned home and told his wife what had happened, she decided to help and provided the missing 1,300 shekels from her own account.
Then the infant's father met with the lender, returned the loan, and tore the promissory note to pieces while blessing the deceased to rest in peace—but the story doesn't end there.
Just one day after the debt was settled, the following day, a woman in the community who was suffering from a terrible illness received the news that her latest test was clear, and the tumors had disappeared from her body. Puzzled doctors couldn't explain how a woman whose illness had progressed so severely, with tumors on her spine and a grim prognosis, was miraculously healed.
The signs of illness vanished
Amid the doctors’ astonishment, they released the patient, but that's not the end, for another salvation occurred in the community immediately after the debt was paid: One child had recently been diagnosed with the same terrible spinal disease, but on that Thursday, as noted, his parents received the test results with amazement: The child's body had suddenly been cleansed of all signs of the illness.
In the wake of these two events, the residents of Tel Zion had prayed and made wonderful resolutions to witness miracles, and a seemingly small act of repaying a not very large debt had reversed a harsh decree. As one resident insightfully noted: 'Promissory note' in gematria (Hebrew numerology) is the same as 'spine', and when the debt was paid off, the note was torn, and the spinal illness disappeared. But why two patients, and why male and female? He explained that it was the merit of the deceased child’s mother, who didn’t allow her husband to rest until the full amount was found, even contributing the remaining money from her account to ensure the debt was swiftly settled.
May it be the will that these words serve as an elevation for the soul of R' Moshe Yaakov z"l the son of R' Binyamin Shmuel sheyichyeh - as this story was publicized exactly thirty days after his passing.
